Why Are So Many Online Recipes Free?

It is a puzzle, indeed. With millions of dollars made by dozens of publishers every year, why is there such a wealth of online recipes available free of charge? Are these people crazy?

A large number of those recipes are posted on personal or fan pages just out of the goodness of the writers' hearts. For true kitchen wizards, the only thing more satisfying than creating a great new dish is getting the praise from others who have used your recipe to satisfy their own audiences. Feeding a cook's ego can be just as necessary as feeding his diner's stomachs.
